About The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse
The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse is a very special place for a lot of people. The building has seen a few changes over the years, but is now The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse, a new style of hostel with a focus on design and comfort. Our guests enjoy our excellent location, fantastic facilities, wonderful views of the sunset over the bay and, for a lucky few, views of the Northern Lights. The Cowshed is also a very special place for a lot of the locals, who were literally born here; the original building on site was the maternity hospital for the island!
Situated on the North West coast, the Cowshed is perfectly positioned to enjoy spectacular sunsets over the bay. We are also lucky enough to get regular sightings of the Northern Lights, and many guests have left here with fantastic aurora photos and memories which will last a life time.
The village of Uig is small but has everything you could need during your stay. There is a petrol station, cafes, restaurants, a fantastic local pub, and an excellent general store (Rankins) for your grocery needs. The Isle of Skye Brewing Company is based in the village, offering you a real taste of Skye in the sampling area of their shop. Local wildlife is in abundance on the northern peninsula. Year round there are daily ferry links to the Outer Hebrides, and in the spring and summer boats leave from nearby Portree harbour to look for whales and puffins. Keep an eye out for dolphins, seals and otters in the bay, and eagles and buzzards soaring overhead.
The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse makes the perfect base to make the most of everything the island has to offer. There are some great local walks. Shorter options include a stroll through Uig woods to the sea shore, a walk to the thundering Rha Falls, or time spent exploring the fantastic landforms of the Fairy Glen and feeling the magic of this unique miniature landscape of grassy hills. Longer hikes take you up to the scenic wonders of the Trotternish Ridge. We are surrounded by beautiful scenery and just a short drive from some of the great ‘North End Highlights’, including the Quiraing, The Old Man of Storr, and Kilt Rock.
The wonders of the North West of the island should not be missed, with the famous Fairy Pools, Neist Point Lighthouse, Dunvegan Castle, Coral Beaches, and the Talisker Distillery all within easy reach from Uig. The Isle of Skye offers something for everyone; amazing hiking, glorious scenery, varied wildlife…. the list is endless. The Cowshed staff would be happy to recommend great day trips, ensuring that you don’t miss any popular highlights or lesser-known wonders.
Terms and Conditions
Bunkhouse Check-In Times
Check-in is between 16:00 and 22:00 (unless by prior arrangement). Please feel free to arrive early and enjoy our facilities until reception opens at 16:00. Please contact the hostel if you need to arrange check-later than 22:00.
Check-out is at 10:00am from pods and bunkhouse beds and rooms. Guests are asked to remove all their belongings from their room and also from the locker they may have used within the room. On check-out guests are required to return their keys to reception.
Property Access
Please be aware that our driveway is steep and tightly winding, and may not be passable by long vehicles or those towing trailers.
Cancellation Policy
If a booking is cancelled 7 or more days before arrival then 90% of the total balance will be refunded.
If less than 7 days of notice are given, a charge equal to the full booking amount will be made. No-shows will be charged for the full booking amount.
Please note that if you are booking for 8 or more people group booking policies apply.
Bunkhouse Conduct
Our aim at The Cowshed is to offer everyone an enjoyable and relaxed stay with us. For that reason we ask guests to show due consideration to the needs of others in the hostel at all times. We expect guests to be quiet within the hall and rooms after 10pm and to respect communal spaces. Any guests displaying unacceptable behaviour will be asked to leave the hostel without refund.
Booking Amendments
Please contact the hostel if you wish to make any amendments to your booking. We will try our best to accommodate your amendments subject to availability.
Group Bookings
The Cowshed welcomes group bookings. Our definition of a ‘group booking’ is a party of more than 8 people. To make a Group Booking Enquiry please fill out the Group Booking enquiry form or contact the hostel and our helpful staff will be happy to assist you.
Unfortunately we cannot accept any bookings from stag or hen parties.
Group Booking Policies and Cancellation Charges
We require a 20% non-refundable deposit to be paid on confirmation of a group booking, with the remaining balance payable 28 days prior to your arrival date. Changes to booking numbers or cancellations will receive no refunds once full payment is received. Please contact the hostel for group booking rates.
Private Hire
The Cowshed is available for Private Hire. If you wish to book the entire hostel for your group please contact us directly for Rates and Terms & Conditions.
Children
We welcome children to our hostel but ask that they be supervised at all times. Children under 5 years of age cannot be accommodated in shared rooms, only in private rooms. Please advise the hostel if you require a portable cot. If you have any concerns or queries, please feel free to contact us.
Length of Stay
We welcome guests for stays of up to two weeks at a time.
Pets
Dogs are allowed in all our pods. If you would like a pod within a fenced area please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Owners must be responsible for their dogs at all times.
